Aquarium Setup

Now for the fun part! Once you have collected all of your supplies, its time to put your tank together to prepare for your fish.

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Rinse out your aquarium with warm water
  2. Rinse your gravel with warm water to remove any extra material and sediment (a colander works well for this).
  3. Rinse your filter cartridge in water to remove the extra carbon dust
  4. Set up your tank on its stand (or wherever you’re placing it. Remember, it’s heavy!)
  5. Pour your clean gravel into your aquarium
  6. Use a big bucket and fill your aquarium to the bottom of the black plastic rim on the tank
  7. Stick your heater to the back of the tank wall with its suction cups or hang it over the back
  8. Place your filter on the back of the tank and fill it with water
  9. Once your filter is placed and it is filler with water, plug it in and insert the cartridge
  10. Apply your thermometer sticker to the outside of the aquarium glass, where you can see it.
  11. Set your heater to the proper temperature and let it run.
  12. Add water conditioner
  13. Let your tank sit for 2 days!

Once you have done all of these steps, go ahead and add decorations and live plants. Make sure to check that your water is set to 78-82 degrees before adding fish!
